This film noir classic tells the story of Martha Ivers, a cruelly neglected heiress to a town’s fortune, who orchestrates a scheme of revenge and murder, and finds a mad second chance at love when a childhood romance mysteriously re-appears.

This classic romantic thriller was created by a legendary team of Jewish cinema masters. Produced by Hal Wallis, the producer of The Maltese Falcon (1941) and Casablanca (1942). Directed by Lewis Milestone, who directed classics like All Quiet on the Western Front (1930) and Edge of Darkness (1943), from a script co-written by Oscar-winning Jewish screenwriters Robert Rossen (The Hustler (1961) and Robert Riskin (It Happened One Night (1934).
