Artist’s Talk: In the Aftermath of Terror: Remembering David Berger

Wednesday, June 18, 7:00 pm
Held In-person
$10 General Admission, $5 Members

Join us as Interplay Jewish Theatre founder Faye Sholiton leads a discussion on A Form of Hope, a play honoring the life of Shaker Heights native David Mark Berger. At age 28, Berger was one of the 11 members of the Israeli Olympic team slain by Black September militants at the Munich games. In 2002, the Cleveland JCC invited Sholiton to write a play as a tribute.

After months of interviews with those closest to David, she found a common thread: Even as their accounts grew more tentative, their sense of loss was still fresh. It was also clear that memory was a gift that could stave off despair. Israeli poet Yehuda Amichai confirmed this power with these words: “To remember is a form of hope.”

Sholiton and other readers will share portions of her play and discuss more recent, international efforts to remember the Israeli athletes.
