Paris / Auschwitz: Remembering the Children
Friday, December 8, 1:00 pm
Virtual Program
$10 general, free members.
Since 2010, Eleanor Winters, a calligraphic artist based in New York and Paris, has been working on a large, ongoing series of paintings in commemoration of nearly 7000 Parisian Jewish children who perished in the Nazi concentration camps during the Holocaust. Based on texts on memorial plaques installed throughout Paris, she has “taken the words off the walls” to create artwork that expresses the tragedy of this period through color, texture, calligraphy and design: art in the service of memory. Join Eleanor to discuss the evolution of her artwork, in context of the history of the deportation of Jews during Nazi occupation, as she shares examples of her powerful and evocative calligraphic paintings. A stunning virtual program, anyone can tune in no matter where they are!
