Professional Development for Educators! This Light of Ours: Civic Agency & the Struggle for Voting Rights

Tuesday, November 8
8am – 12pm at The Temple-Tifereth Israel
In-person

Free for educators

Celebrate Election Day with a reflection on the history of voting and the importance of voting rights! In today’s democracy, it is critical for students to understand their own civic voice and power — as voters and as advocates for those issues that are important to them. In connection with the Maltz Museum’s special exhibition, This Light of Ours: Activist Photographers of the Civil Rights Movement, educators will explore resources and strategies to connect students with the history of heroes who fought for the right to vote — and ways students can use their voices and agency as they choose to participate in issues that matter to them today.

Receive engaging classroom curriculum resources from Facing History & Ourselves, walk through the exhibition of over 150 black-and-white photographs from Freedom Summer and other dramatic moments of the Civil Rights Movement. Then, see close up how the new interactive biography of civil rights leader Rev. Dr. Otis Moss Jr. is utilizing technology to lift history out of the books and into real life. Snacks and drinks will be provided throughout the morning.
