Spend December 25 at the Maltz Museum!

The Maltz Museum is open Sunday, December 25th from 11am-5pm with special family-friendly programming scheduled throughout the afternoon.  All FREE with Museum admission!

 

Our “Chinese Food & A Movie” Day is back!  Enjoy short films, create some art, join a scavenger hunt, and when you’re done, snack on those traditional “Jewish delicacies”—egg rolls and fortune cookies!

 

SCHEDULE OF EVENTS

Throughout the Afternoon

Arts & Crafts – make a clay mezuzah or roll your own beeswax candles for Hanukah, Shabbat, birthdays or other special events in the Lobby

Scavenger Hunts for different ages available at the Ticket Desk

Free Snacks – Kosher egg rolls, fortune cookies, candy & beverages in the Lobby

Films: Animated stories from the Maurice Sendak Library

The Nutshell Kids – series of short films including Chicken Soup with Rice.  Featuring original compositions from Jewish songwriting legend Carole King. (18 min.)

Where the Wild Things Are – based on the popular Caldecott Medal winning children’s book, Max sails away to the land of the wild things. Narrated and music by Peter Schickele. (6 min.)

In The Night Kitchen – a little boy dreams of a magical kitchen where bakers make cakes all night long and bread-dough airplanes fly. (8 min.)

Film: Molly’s Pilgrim

The 1985 Academy Award Winner for Best Live Action Short Film, this movie examines the struggles of a young Russian-Jewish girl as she learns to adapt to life in America. Using humor and drama, the film uncovers the Jewish roots of the holiday of Thanksgiving and teaches a lesson of religious tolerance and friendship. (21 min.)

Film: Like Father, Like Clown

From Season 3 of The Simpsons this hilarious TV classic follows the story of Krusty the Clown as he tries to reconcile with his rabbi father. Bart and Lisa explore Jewish traditions and study the Talmud as they try to prove to the rabbi that clowning is an honorable profession.  Featuring the voice of Jackie Mason as Rabbi Hyman Krustofski.  (24 min.)

In anticipation of our next special exhibition Project Mah Jongg, New York Times reporter and best-selling author Jennifer 8. Lee tells the fascinating story of how Chinese cuisine became “as American as Apple Pie.”  Followed by the hilarious YouTube sensation Chinese Food for Christmas by filmmaker/singer-songwriter Brandon Walker (20 min.)
